SOLD Signed "C SPITZER" Charles Spitzer, New Market, Shenandoah County, Virginia ca1835

Charles Spitzer was the son of the great New Market gunsmith Henry Spitzer. He was born in 1807 and stayed in New market his entire life. He was trained by his father and worked in the shop as well.

The rifle remains in untouched original condition with no replacements, damage, or no restoration. The original finish is intact and has a wonderful surface on the entire rifle. Even all the silver headed barrel wedges are original. Of interest is the method he used to secure the ramrod pipes. The pipes are held by wedges much like the wedges through draw loops securing the barrel, however the oval inlay appearing on the opposite side of the forestock are actually attached to the wedge. This method was used on wedges through the draw loops securing the barrels on some Botetourt County rifles in an earlier period.

The barell is 39.5" long and about .58 cal. The rifle would be a wonderful addition to any Shenandoah Valley deorative arts collection, Valley rifle collection, or any quality rifle collection.
