Signed H Eckler, Henry Eckler, Pine Grove, Schuylkill County, PA ca 1825
This example of Henry's work shows his close association with Leonard Reedy also of Pine Grove. Eckler's rifles are rare and this example is probably his best known not only atistically but certainly in originality. The rifle is in almost new condition not having been cleaned, repaired, restored, or changed in any way. The surface is near perfect as is the curly maple Henry chose for the rifle. Incised carving is similar in content to Reedy's but less defined.
The original length rifled barrel is 41.5 inches about .50 cal. The flintlock is original to the rifle and remains in unaltered condition. Every screw, pin, wedge, inlay, and mount are original and unchanged. The ramrod has not been forced out of its current position and is assumed to be original to the rifle. Rifles in this condition are a true rarity and will certainly escalate in value more rapidly than restored examples.
